Kolkata Events

Durga Puja is Kolkata's defining annual public season and is inscribed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. It usually falls in September or October, following the religious calendar. Pavilions, worship, neighbourhood routes and immersion processions reshape movement; use current official dates and traffic plans.

Kali Puja and Diwali follow later in the autumn calendar. Temples and neighbourhood celebrations become busy, and temporary transport or safety controls may apply.

Kolkata International Film Festival, book fairs, art programmes, theatre and music seasons depend on the organiser's current edition. Confirm dates, venue and admission rather than travelling from an old calendar.

Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, brings cultural and commercial activity in April, during a hot part of the year. Plan outdoor time around the forecast.

For any major event, expect altered roads, dense pedestrian flows and limited vehicle access. Keep a meeting point, carry water, follow queue and accessibility arrangements, and let active worship or performance set the pace.
