Capri Events

Capri’s fixed dates are religious and local, and they are noticeably unglamorous compared with the island’s reputation — which is rather the point of going to one.

San Costanzo, 14 May

The island’s patron saint, a Byzantine bishop whose remains are held at Marina Grande. The statue is carried in procession between the harbour church and the town, and it is an islanders’ occasion that happens to fall just before the season proper begins.

Sant’Antonio in Anacapri, 13 June

Anacapri’s own patron, and the bigger of the two celebrations in that town: a procession through streets hung with decoration, and a good indication that the upper island runs its own calendar.

The Settembrata Anacaprese

A harvest festival in September, built around the grape and the wine the terraces above Anacapri still produce in small quantity, with food stalls and competitions between the town’s districts. It is the least visitor-oriented thing on the island’s calendar.

The rhythm of the season

The practical calendar is the boat timetable. Services build from Easter, peak in August and thin out through October; by December the island is running on a winter schedule and much of Capri town is shuttered.

Book well ahead for May, and for any night in July or August — the island has a fixed and fairly small number of beds.
