San Gennaro, 19 September. The principal observance takes place at Naples Cathedral and is both religious and civic. Expect movement and access around the Duomo to change; attend respectfully and allow worshippers priority.

Piedigrotta, early September. The tradition around Mergellina joins Marian devotion with procession, music and the history of Neapolitan song. Its modern programme can vary, so check the municipal calendar rather than assuming every historical element appears each year.

Maggio dei Monumenti, May. This citywide cultural programme uses special openings, walks, talks and performances. The 2026 edition ran from 2 May to 2 June with more than 200 free appointments, but themes and dates change. Consult the current programme before building a trip around a particular building.
