Sorrento Events

Sorrento’s calendar is religious at its core, and the two biggest occasions are a winter saint’s day and Easter week.

Sant’Antonino, 14 February

The town’s patron, marked with a procession and a street fair. It falls in the dead of the low season, which makes it the one time of year the winter town fills up with its own people.

The Good Friday processions

Two processions, run by the confraternities and quite unlike each other. The white one moves through the town before dawn; the black one, in mourning, goes at night. Both are silent apart from chant, hooded, and centuries old, and they draw large crowds.

Sant’Anna at Marina Grande, 26 July

The fishing harbour’s own festival, with a procession by sea and fireworks over the water. It belongs to Marina Grande rather than to the town above.

The working year

Lemon harvesting runs through much of the year on the terraces, with the heaviest picking in spring. Around November the season ends and the town closes in stages; it reopens over March.

Easter is the hardest week to book, and 14 February is the only winter date where accommodation matters at all.
