Overview
Tickets are free, always, and that is the fact to carry. The Holy See states plainly that tickets for the General Audiences and the Holy Father’s Liturgical Celebrations are always free of charge. Lay visitors request them from the Prefecture of the Papal Household. Anyone selling you an audience ticket is selling something the Vatican gives away; a paid “skip the line” audience package is buying you nothing the Prefecture would not have posted to you for nothing.
The pope is Leo XIV, elected on 8 May 2025 and inaugurated on 18 May 2025, following the death of Pope Francis on 21 April 2025.
Check the calendar before you plan a day around it. Audiences and celebrations are not held to a fixed timetable a guidebook can promise: they move with the liturgical year, with papal travel, and with the pope’s own diary. The Vatican publishes the current calendar of pontifical liturgical celebrations, and that is the only thing worth planning from. Bishops, priests and deacons book through a separate office, not the lay channel.
If you cannot get to Rome, the Holy See streams the Holy Father’s audiences and ceremonies live.
