How to Get Around Ancona

Ancona is strung along a slope and is bigger on foot than it looks on a map.

The centre is walkable but steep: the corso and the port are on the flat, and everything historic is above them.

Buses run frequently through the city and out to the Conero beaches at Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana, with extra summer services.

The station is about two kilometres southwest of the centre, connected by frequent buses; a separate maritime station serves the ferries.

Parking is tight in the centre and easier near the port and the station.

A car is useful for the Conero and the hinterland and a liability in the city.

The ferry terminal is walkable from the centre, though the port is large and signage assumes you are in a vehicle.
