Discover Termoli

Termoli sits on a low promontory on the Adriatic coast of Molise, with around thirty-three thousand inhabitants and the region's only real port.

The Borgo Antico occupies the headland behind its walls: a dense grid of lanes, painted houses and a single celebrated alley barely wide enough to pass through.

At its seaward point stands the Castello Svevo, rebuilt under Frederick II in 1247 and still the town's emblem.

Inside the walls, the cathedral of Santa Maria della Purificazione is Apulian Romanesque of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, with a blind-arcaded front and the relics of two saints in its crypt.

The port works: a fishing fleet, a commercial quay and, in season, ferries to the Tremiti islands.

Along the rocks either side of the town stand trabucchi, timber platforms with cantilevered nets, several of which still fish.
