Castellina in Chianti

Castellina in Chianti Events

The town's own summer calendar runs out of the Rocca. Musica al Museo, promoted by the Comune di Castellina in Chianti, puts concerts of various kinds inside the fifteenth-century fortress — part of the Museo Archeologico's visit route — and pairs each evening with the wines of a Castellina producer. Entry is free. In 2026 it ran to three evenings in July: 15 July with the Tuscan folk group La Serpe d'Oro, 24 July with cello students of David Geringas from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and 29 July with the Sienese group Demodé.

August is the month the whole town is out. Castellina puts on Calici di Stelle — goblet of stars — around 10 August, for the night of San Lorenzo: wine and food tastings with stargazing, the streets filled with markets and concerts, and the Archaeological Museum open to the public until late in the evening.

And then there is the watermelon. The Watermelon Festival is also celebrated in August — an event that began among Castellina's peasant community after the Second World War, which is about as local as a festival gets.

The museum runs its own programme for families and schools — a summer campus, a September field week and the Giornata Nazionale delle Famiglie al Museo in October — and takes bookings for family workshops in Italian and English on request.
