How to Get Around Cortina d'Ampezzo
Getting Around
Cortina has no railway station. The line that once served it closed in 1964; its trackbed is now the cycle route toward Dobbiaco, which is one of the pleasantest ways to see the valley.
Access is by road. Buses run from Calalzo di Cadore (the nearest station, about an hour) and from Venice, Belluno and Dobbiaco. By car, Venice is roughly two and a half hours and Belluno about an hour and a half.
The town itself is small and walkable -- Corso Italia is essentially the whole of it. Cable cars from the edges of town reach Faloria and the Tofane, and are the practical way into the mountains without a car.
For the Tre Cime and Misurina, the seasonal bus is genuinely better than driving: the road is tolled and the car park fills early.
Connections from Cortina d'Ampezzo
How easily, and at what cost, can you combine the region’s main destinations?
| Route | Best option | One-way time | Travel Smart take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cortina d'Ampezzo and Venice | Bus or carmoderate cost | ~2 hr by road | Better as a separate stay than a day trip. |
Cost compares the options for each route rather than quoting a fare: inexpensive means the price is not a factor in planning, moderate cost means a real line in the budget, and the expensive option is one worth weighing against the alternative. Fares change from year to year; the ranking between them does not.
