Palazzo dei Trecento

The Palazzo dei Trecento is Treviso's medieval council hall and the building that gives Piazza dei Signori its scale: a long brick block over an open ground-floor loggia, named for the three hundred members of the commune's great council who met in the hall upstairs.

The loggia is a public thoroughfare that residents use constantly; treating it as a passage rather than a photo stop is closer to what it is.

The building is a reconstruction that chose to show its own damage rather than hide it, and the visible brick line is worth understanding as a deliberate record of April 1944 rather than a flaw in the repair.

The loggia is open public space, free and always accessible. The upper hall opens for exhibitions, concerts and civic events rather than on museum hours -- worth checking what is on, since that is the only way to see the interior.

Ten minutes' walk north of Treviso Centrale station, at the centre of the pedestrianised historic core.
