Keep a little mystery in your trip planning: Explorer Picture Mode shows a stylized version of every place instead of the real photo, so you can go by the description and reviews first and picture it your own way -- reveal the real photo any time by flipping the switch off, or just for one place at a time from its own page.

Overview

Changed
The Canadian Rockies, peaking on Alberta and British Columbia in Canada, is the North American Rocky Mountain range in this region. Picturesque, serene, calm, adventurous treks all add to its charm. Known to be older mountains than the American side, these mountains are purely sedimentary rocks and glaciated.

The closest airport to reach the Rockies is the Calgary International Airport, one and half hours away, from where one can reach the mountains by road. The weather here is a mix of seasons in a day with it sometimes being sunny, sometimes a thunderstorm and sometimes hail. Depending on which town you are looking at basing yourself at in this region, there are a wide variety of inn's, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels, motels, cabins, lodges, rental and camping facilities to choose from.

Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Fernie, Kimberley, Waterton, Canmore, Kananaskis, Invermere, Revelstoke, Valemount and Cranbrook are some important towns in this region that have varied tourist interest and the base for most activities in the region. The wildlife in the region can best be experienced in the Icefields Parkway, Kootenav, Glacier, Waterton, Jasper, Banff, Kanaskis County and Yoho are some of the regions with the most popular national parks for all the wild, flora and fauna. Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks together make up the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site as declared by UNESCO for a mix of mountain landscapes, peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, canyons, fossils and limestone caves – all located in one region. Enjoy the thrill of mountains!
