Asheboro is a city based in
North Carolina. It holds the seat of the Randolph County.
Asheboro is known as the central point of the state, because of its location near the Piedmont plateau. Asheboro might be far from the Appalachian highlands but the city is renowned for its hilly slopes. It is also near the Uwharrie Mountains, a set of high hills worn down by erosion through time. Because of the city’s nearness to slopes, the city is misconceived as a mountainous area, although it isn’t.
The Asheboro Copperheads has the city’s McCrary Park as their home. This baseball team joined the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate league held during the summers, in 1999.
Asheboro is also the location of the Caraway Speedway, a .455 mile racing oval made of asphalt. Drivers such as Kyle Petty, Richard Petty, and Dale Earnhardt have used the track for their racing competitions.
Fauna enthusiasts can truly enjoy the city as you can find the North Carolina Zoo right at the heart of Asheboro.
Asheboro’s sons include Kerry Collins, an Indianapolis Colts quarterback; Scott Bankhead, the MVP of the 1989 Seattle Mariners team; and Sam Ard, who won the Nascar Busch series in 1983-1984. A prominent daughter, Traci Lazenby Elliot, made waves in 2010 when she won the Linda Flowers Literary Award.
