Overview

Venezuela lies in the northern part of South America. The western part of Venezuela is dominated by the Andes Mountains. Since it is a tropical country, dense tropical rainforests envelop most of its southern part.

Venezuela has always been known as the country where some of the most beautiful women on Earth can be found. After all, Venezuela is one of the countries that have always made it to the finals of the prestigious Miss Universe pageant. This country of beauty is made up of the mainland situated on the northernmost tip of the South America continent, and several islands spread across the Caribbean Sea.

As with the other countries located in this continent, Venezuela had been once a colony of Spain. The indigenous people thriving in this area, who share the same ancestry as those who inhabit the Caribbean Islands, succumbed to the Spanish Inquisition in 1522. Nearly three centuries later, the country of Venezuela gained its independence from the Spanish crown. Since then, the government ruling the country had shifted from a republic to a dictatorship and vice versa.

Venezuela is one of the major manufactures of petroleum products in the world and this also accounts for 80% of Venezuela’s export earnings. This is one of the many reasons as to why today, the country is considered to be one of the most urbanized countries in all of Latin America. Although this may not seem to be surprising, what is extremely noteworthy about Venezuela is that despite the fact that petroleum products are one of its major commodities, Venezuela has remained vigilant in protecting their environment and preserving the country’s natural resources and treasures. For this reason, the country has been considered to be one of the eighteen most bio-diverse countries in the world.

For those who are looking for something that is a little bit more extreme and adventurous, head down South to the state of Bolivar. The numerous cliffs and mountains that are found in this area are a favorite by mountain climbers and trekkers alike.
