The Matterhorn, or Mont Cervin in French, is possibly the most famous mountain in the Alps for its spectacular pyramidal shape. Its summit, at 4,478 meters, is the fifth highest peak in the Alps. The mountain is located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is above the city of Zermatt, in the canton of Valais, to the northeast, and Breuil-Cervinia, in the Aosta Valley, to the south.
