How to Get Around District of Columbia
Getting Around
The District is a single city and is best covered on foot, by bicycle and by Metro, which reaches most of it and both of the closer airports.
Driving is the worst option: the diagonal avenues and traffic circles confuse everyone, parking is scarce and expensive, and congestion is among the heaviest in the country.
Reagan National is on the Metro and minutes from the centre; Dulles is further out in Virginia; the Baltimore airport is served by commuter rail. Union Station handles intercity trains north to Philadelphia and New York.
Detail is on the city page.
