Practical information for visiting Atlantic City
Connectivity & Internet
Atlantic City International Airport serves a limited network from a mainland terminal. The airport authority listed Allegiant, Breeze and an American Airlines Landline connection in 2026. Routes can be seasonal, so verify that a flight operates on the required date.
Philadelphia is the clearest rail gateway. NJ TRANSIT runs the Atlantic City Line from 30th Street Station to the terminal beside the Convention Center. Travellers arriving at Philadelphia International Airport need a separate airport-to-30th-Street connection.
New York City is connected mainly by road and intercity bus rather than a direct railway. Motorists approach from the mainland by causeways, with the Atlantic City Expressway forming the principal regional route. Coastal flooding or major events can slow the final kilometres.
Cellular coverage is generally strong in developed areas, though large events, casino interiors and garages can weaken service. Save tickets, accommodation details and one offline map before arrival. Public Wi-Fi should not replace a secure connection for payments or personal accounts.

Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use normal resort-city precautions. Keep wallets, phones and casino vouchers controlled in crowded interiors, avoid leaving valuables visible in a parked car, and know the route back before a late night away from your hotel.
Swimming is a greater practical risk than crime for many visitors. Enter the ocean only at a guarded beach, obey flag and lifeguard instructions, and do not assume calm-looking water lacks rip currents. Current 2026 guarded hours were 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at designated beaches.
Coastal flooding can cover low roads quickly during storms or high tides. Never drive through floodwater. Follow AC Alerts, city notices and hotel instructions when evacuation, road-closure or severe-weather guidance is issued.
Call 911 for an immediate police, fire or medical emergency. For Atlantic City police non-emergency calls, the city lists 609-347-5780. Venue security can help inside casinos and event buildings, but use 911 when danger is immediate.
Health considerations
Swim only where lifeguards are present and follow beach advisories. New Jersey monitors coastal bathing water during the main season and publishes current advisories or closures. Avoid entering the water after a closure simply because conditions appear clear.
Summer heat and humidity can make an open Boardwalk walk more demanding than the air temperature suggests. Use water, sun protection and indoor breaks. The opposite problem occurs in cool seasons, when ocean wind lowers comfort quickly after sunset.
Thunderstorms, nor'easters and tropical systems may bring lightning, dangerous surf and flooding. Leave exposed beach areas when directed and do not shelter under the Boardwalk. Check official weather and city alerts before a long coastal walk.
Casino environments can disrupt sleep, spending and alcohol limits. Set boundaries before play and use New Jersey's 1-800-GAMBLER service if gambling stops feeling controlled. Carry suitable travel insurance and regular medication; personal medical advice belongs with a qualified clinician.

Emergency information
Call 911 for an immediate police, fire or medical emergency. Give the street name and avenue, casino or venue entrance, beach access point, or nearest Boardwalk landmark. Remain available for dispatcher questions.
For non-emergency police matters and general public-safety questions, Atlantic City lists 609-347-5780. Do not use that line when life, property or immediate safety is threatened.
Register for AC Alerts or check the city's official channels during coastal storms, flooding, unexpected road closures, public-safety incidents and major events. Hotels may also issue property-specific shelter or evacuation instructions.
On the beach, follow lifeguards and leave the water immediately when restrictions are announced. Inside casinos, Boardwalk Hall or the Convention Center, follow staff and public-address instructions. Meeting points and exits may differ during an event.
