Introduction
Hamburg is a city-state and is Germany’s biggest port. It prides itself by being the media center of Germany, houses one of Airbus’ assembly plants and also has some of the largest and most magnificent artificial lakes, parks and canals.
Hamburg has a large number of travelers visiting each year and they are mainly congress visitors, city visitors and business travelers. Of the many tourist attractions, an architectural masterpiece is Hamburg’s city hall or Rathaus which was built in 1897 out of sandstone in neo-Renaissance style. Conducted boat tours take you to the artificial lakes- Binnenalster and Aubenalste which also lure tourists. Another cultural sight is Hamburg’s oldest bridge (Zollenbrücke) which has been in existence since the 17th century.
For younger travelers looking at action packed shows, the Hamburg Dungeon located around the harbor area offers just that. It offers a presentation of Hamburg in the gloomy times and is very famous. Another must see for tourists is the Miniatur Wunderland which is the world's largest model railway layout. Other places of interest include “Carl Hagenbecks Tierpark” which is the world’s first zoo with open air enclosures, St. Michaelis Church which has the biggest tower clock in Germany and Museum of Hamburg History where you will find exhibits of art, science, technology etc.
Public transport is the most practical way to get around for tourists. The climate in Hamburg is pleasant all year through with light to moderate rainfall. However maximum rainfall is during the months of July and August.
