The Italian province of Emilia Romagna is located near the southern shore of the Po River in the north/upper central part of Italy. Emilia Romagna offers visitors two main different types of areas. They are the Apennines, which start to rise in Emilia Romagna, and an incredible flatland, which is the perfect place to develop an intensive agriculture. In addition, the chemical industry has used the marshlands of Romagna for their developments. There are also comfortable seaside resorts in the same area.

If you are a fan of Italian food, you will enjoy the delicious pasta, varieties of cheeses and pork products, which can be found in abundance in Emilia Romagna. For example, the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese is well known all around the world.

Regional highlights include Bologna, Parma and Ravenna. In this region, one can find amazing ancient buildings, which were created in Byzantine periods. On the other hand, Bologna is the capital of Emilia Romagna region and it also offers the incredible inheritance of Etruscan civilization. It was occupied by the Etruscans in the 6th century BC. In the medieval ages people enjoyed affluence. In 1860, Emilia Romagna united with the Kingdom of Italy.

Castello Estense in Ferrara is a famous fortress here that was constructed in 1385 as a defense against the enemies. However, it became a luxurious mansion from 1450 onwards. The Sant’Apollinare in Classe is a Byzantine basilica and is a world heritage site. Apart from these, Cathedral of St. Donnino and Rocca di Vignola are the other famous monuments.
