India Gate site features
Last updated on October 19, 2026The monument
India Gate rises 42 metres as a pale stone arch with two massive piers and a single high opening. “INDIA” is cut across the upper faces. Thousands of names appear lower down, turning the broad surfaces into a memorial record.
Beneath the opening stands the dark Amar Jawan Jyoti structure: a reversed rifle, helmet and plinth. Its former flame no longer burns there. Open lawns and roads surround the arch, leaving its outline visible from the full length of Kartavya Path.
