Practical information for visiting Mysuru

Connectivity & Internet

Mysuru is strongly connected by rail and road to Bengaluru and the wider Karnataka network. Mysuru Junction and KSRTC services are the principal gateways for many visitors. Check Indian Railways and KSRTC directly for current schedules, booking rules and disruption.

Mysuru Airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India and lies south of the city. Scheduled service is much smaller than Bengaluru's; confirm the exact operating date, baggage rule and onward transport before buying a non-refundable plan around it.

Cellular data and card payment are common in hotels, formal attractions and larger businesses, but a market stall, temple counter or local bus may still require cash or a domestic payment system. Carry a modest backup and do not display large amounts.

Download tickets, accommodation details, a map and key addresses before travel. During Dasara, congestion and overloaded networks can make an offline copy more useful than nominal coverage.

Stay safe (2026 security update)

Mysuru is a busy visitor city rather than a controlled resort. Use ordinary urban precautions around stations, markets, palace queues, festivals and crowded buses: keep valuables closed, resist unsolicited ticket or shopping help and use authorised transport.

Dasara and major temple dates create dense crowds, barriers, one-way walking and road closures. Follow police instructions, agree on a meeting point and do not push against a procession or security cordon.

Traffic is the most persistent everyday risk. Large circles and broad roads can carry fast mixed traffic even when the city appears calm. Choose visible crossings and do not assume vehicles will yield.

Heavy rain, lightning, heat and animal bites require practical judgment. Leave Chamundi viewpoints in thunderstorms, do not feed macaques and seek prompt medical care after a bite or scratch.

India's integrated emergency number is 112.

Health considerations

Sun and heat still matter at Mysuru's elevation, especially from March through May. Start exposed walking early, drink reliably safe water, use shade and stop for dizziness, confusion, headache or unusual weakness. Seek urgent help for severe symptoms.

Pre-monsoon and monsoon rain increases slippery surfaces, standing water and mosquitoes. Use repellent, suitable clothing and caution on hill steps or wet stone. Do not enter floodwater whose depth, drainage or electrical hazards are unclear.

Choose sealed or reliably filtered water and freshly cooked food from busy premises. Carry routine medication and discuss vaccines, insurance and personal risks with a qualified clinician before travel.

Do not touch or feed dogs, macaques or other mammals. Rabies risk makes prompt wound washing and medical assessment important after any bite or scratch.

Check current air quality if you have respiratory or cardiovascular vulnerability. Dial 112 for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance.

Emergency information

Dial 112 for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance in Mysuru. Give a precise Mysore Palace gate, Devaraja Market entrance, Chamundeshwari Temple queue, Mysuru Junction platform, suburban bus stand, hotel, university building, lake entrance or road junction and share a map pin.

Inside Mysore Palace, Mysuru Zoo, Mysuru Airport, Mysuru Junction, Chamundeshwari Temple or the University of Mysore, alert that institution's uniformed staff or security as well. Follow its named evacuation or crowd-control route.

For a flight disruption, contact AAI and the airline; for a train, use Indian Railways; for a state bus, use KSRTC. A hotel, guide or reseller cannot overrule an operator's decision.

During heat, thunderstorms or heavy rain, read IMD Meteorological Centre Bengaluru's Karnataka warning before leaving. During Dasara, follow Mysuru District Administration and police route controls. Keep identification copies, insurance, medication details, accommodation and consular contacts offline.
