Chennai Events

Chennai's event calendar combines Tamil religious dates, independent performance seasons and civic programmes. Confirm the current year with the venue or organiser because lunar dates, routes and programme schedules change.

Margazhi and the Chennai Music Season run broadly through December and January. Carnatic concerts and Bharatanatyam performances take place across many sabhas, temples and halls, each with its own tickets, entry policy and calendar. Build days around one district and allow for late finishes.

Pongal in January is a Tamil harvest festival observed through homes, temples, public programmes and travel across the state. Some city businesses change hours, and transport demand can rise around the holiday period.

Chennai Sangamam brings folk and community performance into public settings when programmed. Use the current official schedule rather than an old venue list.

Temple festivals in Mylapore and Triplicane can create major processions and road restrictions. They are acts of worship first. Keep routes clear, dress appropriately and ask before photographing participants.

Church feasts, Ramadan and Eid shape other neighbourhood calendars. Visitor access, food activity and traffic vary by institution. Treat each community's announcements as the operational source.
