Panzano in Chianti

How to get around Panzano in Chianti

Getting around

You will need a car, and the village itself you walk. Panzano has no railway station, and no bus timetable for it is published by the comune of Greve in Chianti or by any other source read for this page.

Panzano Alto is not drivable in any useful sense. The castle has one access gate and one street ending in a small piazzetta. Park below and walk up.

Everything else is a short drive or a walk downhill. The pieve di San Leolino, the oratory of Sant'Eufrosino and the cappella delle Croci all lie outside the village on separate roads.

The comune is at Greve, not here. Comune di Greve in Chianti, Piazza Giacomo Matteotti 7/8, 50022 Greve in Chianti (FI), switchboard 055 8545 1. Anything administrative is dealt with there.

Verified against Comune di Greve in Chianti, October 2026.

The two roads that matter cross below the village, at the Passo di Campana, 480 metres. One is the via Chiantigiana, running on south towards Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti. The other is the strada dei poggi, which follows the watershed between the Greve and the Pesa and links San Casciano in Val di Pesa to Volpaia by way of the Castello delle Stinche — the record calls the route molto panoramico, and it is a cyclists' road.

North to the comune capital. Greve in Chianti is a few miles up the Chiantigiana, and it has the services, the museums and the administration.

The cappella delle Croci is on the Mercatale road. It stands on the provincial road towards Mercatale Val di Pesa, just outside the castle, at the foot of the climb of Monte alla Croci.

And the pieve has a street address, which is the only precise one published here. Via S. Leolino 1, 50022 Panzano in Chianti (Firenze).

No ZTL, parking scheme or local transport service is published for Panzano by the comune, and none is asserted.
