Castello di Conegliano

The castle sits on the hill the town is built against, and what survives is mostly one tower -- the Torre della Campana -- now holding the civic museum. The real reason to climb up is the view: the whole Prosecco landscape on one side and the Veneto plain running to the horizon on the other.

The gardens are a public park used by residents, not a monument precinct. The museum's ticket income maintains a small civic collection with no other real funding.

Walking up rather than driving keeps cars off a narrow residential hill road, and the climb through the old town is the better approach anyway.

The gardens and walls are free and open; the museum inside the tower is ticketed and keeps limited hours, generally closed Mondays and reduced in winter.

Twenty minutes uphill on foot from the main street, or a short drive to parking near the top. The climb is the main effort involved in visiting Conegliano.
