Monday market — weekly, in the main streets. The ordinary, useful kind rather than a visitor attraction, which is why it is worth catching.

Giostra della Rocca — every September. Modelled on medieval horse tournaments, with archery, a chess tournament also played in human form, a musicians’ contest with tambourines and chiarine, flag-flyers, a millstone challenge, and a parade of the nine contrade in period costume. The town is busy and accommodation tightens.

Patronal fair, around 1 November — All Saints is the town’s saint’s day, and the fair around it is the largest gathering of its year: a food and general market, local food stands, a funfair and exhibitions.

Dates move year to year. Confirm with the Pro Loco, which the town houses in the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà on Piazza Mazzini, before planning a trip around one.
