The crossing originated in Roman Verona and was repeatedly altered after floods and conflict. Medieval brick sections and later repairs joined surviving ancient elements. After the 1945 demolition, the bridge was reconstructed by anastylosis, recovering original material from the Adige and reintegrating missing portions.
