Best destinations by month

Late May through June and September into early October usually offer the best balance for long walks, markets, terraces and parks. June also begins the major festival cycle, so the same energy that makes the city attractive can raise room demand.

July and August bring the fullest outdoor programme and the greatest pressure in the festival district, Old Montreal and the Old Port. Heat and humidity can make a tightly packed midday plan tiring. January and February are genuine winter months: museums, food and performance remain strong, but snow, ice and deep cold change travel time.

April and November are transitional. They can be good-value cultural months, yet mixed precipitation and a less dependable outdoor calendar reward flexible plans. Check event dates and the day's weather rather than relying on the monthly label alone.
