Founded in 1984, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is located along the shoreline of Pacific Ocean in Monterey, California. The aquarium was established in order to inspire the conservation of the oceans in the world. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the top destinations of tourists and locals alike in the state of California. Each year, the aquarium is visited by over one million people. Today, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is home to more than 600 different species of marine flora and fauna. Visitors to the Monterey Bay Aquarium find that there is so much to do here that one whole day may not seem to be enough to enjoy all of them. The aquarium has a range of different activities that are guaranteed to endear to visitors of all ages. Every day, families are treated to a wide variety of shows featuring different marine life and focusing on ocean conservation and protection. Children are also treated to several feeding shows where they are able to learn about the eating habits and diets of certain marine animals and how changes in the ocean's environment can disrupt these eating patterns and eventually threaten the survival of these animals. Because it is located along the Pacific coastline, you also have the option to go on any of their different sailing and scuba diving activities. There are also a number of overnight programs where visitors are not only treated to sleep beside their favorite exhibit, but also get a chance to take care of these precious animals even for just a day.
