Overview

Biennale Teatro is one of La Biennale di Venezia's several year-round festivals (alongside Art, Architecture, Cinema, Music, and Dance), focused on contemporary theatre and live performance. Unlike the Art and Architecture Biennales, which alternate years and run for months, Biennale Teatro is held every year, typically over about two weeks in summer.

The festival awards the Golden Lion for Theatre to a leading figure in the field each year, alongside a program of performances, workshops, and staged readings at venues across the city, including the Arsenale.
