Overview

Changed
The Story of People Western Development Museum is located on Hwy 16 W in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. It is open every day from 9am to 5pm except for Mondays during the winter. It is also closed on most major holidays. Prices are currently $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children. They will remain this way until construction for a new exhibit is finished. You can also get free admission if you become a Western Development Museum member.

This museum commemorates the different cultural backgrounds of the people who originally settled western Canada. There are more than fifty cultures to explore. The indoor museum showcases real artifacts from the people of that period as well as recreated houses and rooms filled with handicrafts and traditional decorations of such diverse people as Ukrainians, Icelanders, English, and Doukhobors. The outdoor museum has a wide variety of farming equipment these people used including one of two extant 1916 Twin City gas tractors.

During the summer you might also find traveling exhibits from other Western Development Museums around Saskatchewan. You can also finish you day by having a picnic on the museum grounds. There is a gift shop with replications of many of the museum pieces.

Every summer there is a Threshermen's Show and Seniors Festival on the museum grounds. You can witness traditional displays of farming techniques as well as ice cream, blacksmith, and flour grinding demonstrations. The grounds are also available for you on rent for your own event.
