Visiting Alba

Changed

Alba is the most important town of the Langhe and one of the gastronomic capitals of Italy. Stroll among medieval towers, Liberty style buildings, elegant boutiques in Alba's main shopping street Via Vittorio Emanuele, and historical cafés. Visit the imposing red-brick San Lorenzo Cathedral and absorb the relaxing and charming atmosphere on a terrace with a morning coffee.

Alba is famous for its International Truffle Fair held every year from mid-October through mid-November. The squares of the town will then be filled with the aromatic scent of one of the world’s most expensive food, the white truffle. Many locals and “in-the-know” visitors will flock to the town to buy this exclusive delicacy, which the 18th-century Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini described as the “Mozart of mushrooms”. In autumn, the renowned truffle hunters venture down hidden paths with their faithful hounds to search this rare specialty. With their intense aroma, the white truffles of Alba are the jewel in the crown of the cuisine of the Langhe. Don't miss a delicious dish topped with grated truffle in one of the excellent restaurants of Alba or a local trattoria.
