Museo Correr

Museo Correr is Venice's civic museum, in the Procuratie Nuove building on Piazza San Marco, facing St. Mark's Basilica. Its collection spans paintings, coins, weapons, and everyday objects reflecting the history and daily life of the Republic of Venice over the centuries, built around the founding bequest of the Venetian collector Teodoro Correr.

Piazza San Marco is one of Venice's most crowded public spaces -- entering the museum from the square rather than lingering to photograph the arcades during the busiest midday hours eases pressure on the piazza itself.

Museo Correr sits on the west side of Piazza San Marco, directly reachable on foot from the San Zaccaria or San Marco vaporetto stops.
