Site Features
The Church of San Martino is Burano's most recognizable landmark beyond the houses themselves, its bell tower visibly leaning off-vertical -- a real structural tilt caused by subsidence in the lagoon's soft ground, not a trick of the canal reflections. Inside hangs Giambattista Tiepolo's Crucifixion, painted in 1727.
The Museo del Merletto (Lace Museum), housed in the former lacemaking school, displays historic Burano lace alongside demonstrations of the needle-lace technique that made the island's reputation.
