Ile De France Region Guide

Overview

Of all the twenty-six states that comprise the country of France, perhaps the most popular and most known throughout the world is the Paris-Ile-de-France. Located in the north central part of the country, the region’s capital, Paris has long been considered as one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. Known throughout the world as the “City of Love” and the “City of Lights”, the city of Paris has become the venue where fashion, fine cuisine, culture and romance meet.

Apart from famous landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum, Paris-Ile-de-France is home to some of the most magnificent castles ever built. Two of the most visited castles are the Versailles, which was built by Louis XIV and the Fontainebleau. It is also here where you can visit the infamous Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been renowned to be an exquisite example of Gothic architecture. Because of the popularity of these destinations, it is important to make sure that you book your tickets and passes well ahead of time, especially if you only have a limited time to travel around the city.

For those who want to get away from all the crowds and want a taste of the countryside, head out to the city of Normandy. Guided tours to this city include a tour of the Mont Saint Michel Abbey, which has been considered as a marvel of the western world. Most of these guided tours would include a trip to the town of Clos Lucé, which has been known to be the last dwelling place of the famous painter Leonardo da Vinci.
