Architecture

The main facade rises five stories along the Fondamenta delle Zattere, stepping down to four stories on the section nearest the church of Spirito Santo, deliberately set back to create a visual gap between the two buildings. An L-shaped plan wraps around an internal courtyard garden.

Gardella clad the building in colored brick-grit plaster, with a stone base, window surrounds, and balcony fronts in biancone marble from Vicenza -- materials and colors chosen to echo Venice's older houses rather than contrast with them. The windows and balconies are deliberately irregular in placement, avoiding a rigid grid in favor of the more organic rhythm found on genuinely old Venetian facades, while small service windows set at 45 degrees light interior utility spaces.
