Argentina Country Guide

Overview

Argentina is a land that prides itself as home to pristine beaches, rolling lush landscapes and the amorous dance, known as the Tango. It is the second largest country in South America and lies in the southern part. There are vast mineral resources due to which the economy has flourished. The Andes Mountains that dominate the western region form a rugged frontier between Chile and Argentina. Argentina is home to Pantagonia Desert that lies in the far south and is a vast, ice-cold expanse of windswept rocks. Argentina’s southern Andes peaks and Pantagonian glaciers have snow all the year round. The northern Argentina is hotter. Argentina has been considered as the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world in terms of its land area.

While this may be the case, many people have come to know of the country of Argentina through the Broadway classic, Evita, which has been based on the life of Eva Peron, Spiritual leader of Argentina and her husband, then-President Juan Peron. The influence and legacy left behind by the two had left a significant mark on the nation that even Christina Alvarez Fernandez, the current President of Argentina, stated that neither Eva nor Juan Peron ever left the collective conscience of the people of Argentina.

Argentina is definitely one destination where any traveler would surely find what he or she is looking for. For the nature trekker, Argentina is home of the Iguazu Falls, which has been considered as one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. Another natural wonder you can visit is the Perito Moreno glacier and the Tierra del Fuego, which is considered to be the closest point to the Antarctic. In fact, many travelers that have been here have considered this to be the closest you can get to the Antarctic without having to even go there.

If you are one of those travelers that do not mind walking on the wild side, head out to the Patagonia Lake region. Extreme sport enthusiasts flock to this region, particularly during the winter months as its mountains are considered as a haven for skiing and other winter sports and activities. On the other hand, if you are looking someplace where you can get a bit of peace, tranquility and relaxation, the colonial town of Colonia del Sacramento is best for you. Here you can enjoy a quiet stroll by the shore as you watch the sun go down. In the evening, there are a number of restaurants where you can indulge your taste buds into sampling one of the finest country’s cuisine and vintage.

But the best way to experience Argentina at its fullest is through the music of the country. Here, the Tango is not just considered as the country’s national dance. It is actually considered to be the ultimate expression of the true essence of what Argentina is all about. From the colorful costumes worn by dancers on stage to the sudden dips and turns, the Tango provides travelers a glimpse of what Argentina is and continues to be: a country that would truly leave you spellbound with its beauty and treasures.
